Communication designer and artist Johannes Baptista Ludwig is 34 years old and from Würzburg. He positions and presents his work with his label Bureau L. His work is located at the borderline between graphic design and art. His work is renowned and publicized repeatedly. Johannes studied at the FH Mainz and at the art academy Bezalel, Jerusalem. The last three years he was working in Köln, Berlin and Tel Aviv. Let's await the things to come...!
What was your main reason to sign up on Portfoliopool.com?
Why I signed up on Portfoliopool? Well, first because of the layout of the website and also the standard of the participating artists. Second, because I want to spread my work as much as possible and I want to make it available for a broad public.
How did you choose the works for Portfoliopool?
I tried to find a broad cross section. This sample is up to date and following my aspirations of my work so far. Furthermore, I want to show my involvement at the border of graphic design and art and I want to design my portfolio as relevant as possible.
How did you become a communication designer/illustrator/animation artist?
Why I chose this occupation...? Actually, I was a dental technician, which was not really satisfying for me. The decision to study communication design was a pretty logical step for me, because I have been drawing and designing my whole life. The best decision I could make, so far.
What kind of computer programs are you using?
When I am working with an agency I am using a Mac and CS 5. At home I work with a PC, however, I like it oldschool the most. I am at best manually by hands. Digitalization is a necessary effort, but no problem at all.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I don't really want to get inspired, I rather like to create. I think anyone who needs inspiration is embracing one's weaker self, which likes to keep oneself from working. I like it better to have a constant pressure, that forces me to work.
What are you doing when you are in a creative trough?
I look at creative troughs as a breathing pause. I always get through it very easily, if I want to. I am incessantly creating, building or trying something out. But I do like to expand these troughs with pulling off my shoes, putting my feet into the water and a moist cloth on my neck. I like to spend my creatice troughs very relaxed.
What artistic standards do you pursue?
The viewer/user/customer should be interested in my work, like it or maybe emotionally touched by it. My work should follow the preceded concepts. I will never stop to learn something new or to enlarge my skills. I managed to establish my own style and now I want to push it up even more!
